38.1 As I delve into the project on the popularity of literary genres among teenagers in Zetland, it is evident that fantasy, science fiction and detective/war/spy stories/thrillers (30%, 25% and 20% respectively) are the top three genres among the respondents. It is interesting to note that more traditional genres like classical literature and other modern literature received lower percentages of responses (15% and 10%).

The data reveal a trend towards escapism and adventure among teenagers, as fantasy and science fiction allow readers to immerse themselves in imaginative worlds, while detective/war/spy stories/thrillers provide suspense and intrigue. This preference for excitement and fantasy could be attributed to the desire for an escape from the mundane realities of everyday life.

However, a potential problem that may arise with reading predominantly in these genres is a lack of exposure to different writing styles and themes. To combat this, it is essential to encourage teenagers to explore a wide range of genres, including classical and modern literature, to develop a well-rounded understanding and appreciation for diverse literary works.

In conclusion, reading plays a crucial role in the intellectual and emotional development of teenagers. It fosters creativity, expands knowledge and enhances empathy. Therefore, it is essential to promote a variety of genres to ensure that young readers are exposed to a diverse range of voices and perspectives.

38.2 The project on why people in Zetland do sports aims to understand the different motivations behind engaging in physical activities. According to the data from the opinion polls, it is clear that the majority of respondents do sports to keep fit (42%) or to pursue a career in sports (30%). This shows that health and fitness are important factors driving people to participate in sports, followed closely by aspirations of professionalism.

On the other hand, only a small percentage of respondents cited coping with stress (14%), spending time with friends (9%) or being outdoors (5%) as reasons for doing sports. This suggests that social and psychological factors are less significant motivators for engaging in physical activities in Zetland. It should be noted that fewer respondents chose the three above factors than those who replied that they do sports to keep fit (28% versus 42%).

One potential problem that may arise with doing sports is the risk of injuries, especially for those aiming to make a career in sports. To mitigate this risk, proper training, supervision and adherence to safety guidelines are essential.

In conclusion, engaging in sports is essential for both physical and mental well-being and it is crucial to support individuals in finding their own motivations for staying active.
