По истечении этого времени птица строит свой погребальный костер. Традиционная история гласит, что феникс воспламеняется, сгорает дотла, а затем снова восстает из пепла, чтобы жить еще тысячу лет. Благодаря этой победе над невзгодами птица стала талисманом или символом многих групп и организаций. Как только птица рождается из пепла, цикл начинается заново.
