    • Пояснение:
    I told everyone that I COULDN'T COME to the party at ten, but WOULD ARRIVE as soon as possible.
    Я всем сказал, что не cмогу прийти на вечеринку в десять, но приеду как можно скорее.

    В данном предложении используется косвенная речь (reported speech), то есть передаются чьи-то слова без точного их цитирования (в отличие от прямой речи — direct speech).

    Если сказуемое главного предложения стоит в прошедшем времени (в нашем примере это сказуемое told), то в придаточном предложении необходимо изменить время глагола:

    Present Continuous → Past Continuous

    Present Perfect → Past Perfect

    Past Continuous → Past Continuous or Past Perfect Continuous
    "I was playing the violin."He said that he was playing/had been playing the violin.
    Future Simple → Future in the Past
    "I will buy coffee."He said that he would buy coffee.
