Пояснение:
I told everyone that I COULDN'T COME to the party at ten, but WOULD ARRIVE as soon as possible.
Я всем сказал, что не cмогу прийти на вечеринку в десять, но приеду как можно скорее.
В данном предложении используется косвенная речь (reported speech), то есть передаются чьи-то слова без точного их цитирования (в отличие от прямой речи — direct speech).
Если сказуемое главного предложения стоит в прошедшем времени (в нашем примере это сказуемое
told), то в придаточном предложении необходимо изменить время глагола:
