Задание №15435.
Эссе. ЕГЭ по английскому

Comment on the following statement.

A person who is fluent in a foreign language can easily work as an interpreter.

What is your opinion? Do you agree with this statement?

Write 200–250 words.

Use the following plan:
− make an introduction (state the problem)
− express your personal opinion and give 2–3 reasons for your opinion
− express an opposing opinion and give 1–2 reasons for this opposing opinion
− explain why you do not agree with the opposing opinion
− make a conclusion restating your position

Пояснение:
If you are fluent in a foreign language you can easily speak and write in it. But can you work as a translator if you have fluency in a certain language?

In my opinion, you cannot become an interpreter if you are just fluent in a second language as this profession requires perfect knowledge of not only speaking but grammar as well. Also, a translator needs to be able not only to translate from a foreign language into his native, but also vice versa. To do that, it is not enough to just have fluency.

Some people, on the contrary, believe that you can work as an interpreter if you are fluent in a second language as you have an ability to speak. So you will not have problems fulfilling your professional duties. Also, they believe that you do not need to know grammar rules perfectly in order to become a translator.

I cannot agree with the above opinion as these people fail to understand that being fluent in a foreign language can help you in everyday conversations but it is not enough to work as a translator. If you do not know grammar, you will not be able to speak correctly but it is extremely important in the profession of an interpreter.

In conclusion, to be fluent in a foreign language is insufficient in becoming a translator. You need a perfect knowledge of the language for that job.
