Все студенты бегут в Северное море на рассвете, чтобы отпраздновать приход весны и удачи! Один из моих одноклассников сказал, что прошлым летом традиция помогла ему сдать экзамены.

В данном предложении используется косвенная речь (reported speech), то есть передаются чьи-то слова без точного их цитирования (в отличие от прямой речи — direct speech).

Если сказуемое главного предложения стоит в прошедшем времени (в нашем предложении это сказуемое said), то в придаточном предложении необходимо изменить время глагола:
